Dalara’s day out at the Paddock to Palate Competition
Dalara Pastoral recently participated in the 2018 Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland Paddock to Palate Competition, also known as the Brisbane Ekka. The Paddock to Palate (P2P) competition was first judged in 1998 and is an internationally recognised competition incorporating 100 day export and 70 day trade classes. The competition is three phased comprising best aggregate weight gain; a carcass competition; and an MSA eating quality competition.
Dalara Pastoral entered two pens of steers in Class 38; 70 day grain fed competition. In this competition, a point is awarded for every 8kg gained to a maximum of 280kg. The Dalara pens gained an average daily weight of 2.82kg and 2.69kg respectively which placed the pens in third and fourth place of the competition. An exceptional result given a comprehensive field of 29 pens. In the overall individual results, the Dalara steer took out 2 places in the top 10 and performed well in a highly competitive field.
The team were delighted to receive some prize money for their exceptional results and look forward to the competition next year.
